Junior and Senior Chorus Audition Procedures & Materials

The Maryland All State Chorus audition process will change beginning Fall 2022.  The Junior & Senior Chorus auditions will be in-person at multiple locations throughout the state. Please see the All State webpage for more details.

Students will complete the following for their auditions:

  • Students will sing excerpts from two (2) songs selected from the guest conductors concert repertoire.

  • Students will perform two (2) sight-reading exercises: one rhythmic and one melodic.

  • All materials should be performed in the order and tempo they are presented.

Audition Information

  • Each student will audition for the educator/student identified voice part that is in the most comfortable vocal range.

    • If a voice change occurs after the audition, the student’s Maryland school choral educator must contact the MMEA Office in writing at mmeamarylandinfo@gmail.com, as soon as possible, and provide the specifics. The Maryland Choral Educators Association (MCEA) strongly supports decisions that are most appropriate for individual vocal health.

  • All Senior sopranos will be auditioning with the same music. Soprano 1 and 2 parts will be assigned as part of the ensemble selection process. Any issues with vocal placement will be handled on a case-by-case basis. All requests for vocal placement change MUST come from the student’s Maryland school choral educator.

  • There will be no Senior Treble Chorus for 2022-2023.
